Victoria College is committed to the highest standards in protecting and safeguarding the young people entrusted to our care. Everyone has a responsibility for safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.

All responsible adults within the college and Federation will support students by:

  • Promoting a caring, safe and positive environment within the college.
  • Encouraging self esteem and self assertiveness.
  • Effectively tackling bullying and harassment.

We recognise that some of our students may be the victims of neglect, physical, sexual or emotional abuse. Or any other safeguarding concern. Staff working with students are well trained to identiify such abuse.

In order to protect our students we:

  • Create an atmosphere where all our students can feel secure, valued and listened to.
  • Train staff to recognise signs and symptoms of abuse.
  • Respond quickly, appropriately and effectively to safeguarding concerns.
  • Work with outside agencies and professionals to ensure delivery of support to students and families is identified.

If you have a concern that a student is being harmed, is at risk of harm or you receive a disclosure (intentionally or unintentionally) you must contact a Designated Safeguarding Lead as soon as possible.

Community inclusion is a major part of college life for students, as they engage in educational visits, supported work experience opportunities and enrichment visits to experience their world around them socially and for personal development.

The college has two minibuses to support these visits that can take up to five students and staff.

Transport into college is provided by the local authority and individual applications should be made to each local authority. The college staff can support with this as needed.
